Named for the small, cross-shaped rocks native to the area, Fairy Stone State Park is an incredible 4,537-acre park that includes feature like campgrounds, hiking trails and a lake. Though formed by natural processes, these stones have attracted centuries of stories and legends about their origins. Recreational activities abound at the park, including a lake swimming area open from Memorial Day until Labor Day, nine miles of multi-use trails and fishing on the lake. Guests can spend the night in the park's lodge, one of its cabins or in the campground that has electric and water hookups for RVs. Sitting near the southern edge of Virginia northwest of Martinsville, the park is beside Philpott Reservoir.
